As I was doing my daily journaling this morning, I wrote something that really resonated with me. It’s something I know in my head but often times misses the mark of my heart.
“I think if I take a step back and look at reality – not just what I feel about where I am in relation to where I want to be – I’m actually doing ok."
I was in the bottom part of a cycle I often find myself in. It goes something like this…
Inspired/Motivated –>
Plan –>
Execute –>
Get Tired –>
Stop Executing –>
Feel Miserable
What I realized though is that my reality is usually quite different than what my feelings are. As a business owner, homeschooling mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend, I wear a lot of hats. There is no way I can go 100% full engagement on all those areas at the same time. What I did realize, when I took my step back, was that although my business hadn’t grown to where I would like it to be in this moment, I had a new client this past month that met my financial goals, and that my business was indeed growing. This freed me up to focus on getting things ready for homeschool. I realized that I had created the space to be able to BOTH homeschool and be present with my kids and run a business, serving my clients.
My encouragement to all of us is to take a step back and assess what our “reality” is when we start to feel like we aren’t doing enough, or growing fast enough, or….fill in the blanks. It’s often that our reality is better than we think. There are times, when I do need to step it up, organize and push myself a little harder, but it’s not always the case.
The same grace we extend to our kids as they are learning new things, we need to learn to extend to ourselves. We are learning as we go. There is a timing to everything, and we need to learn to understand the ebbs and flows of our life so we can be more present as we design and build our “resolute” life.
